Own by the Home Retail Group, Argos was sold to Sainsbury’s after a four-month battle in 2016 to buy them after its owner agreed to a £1.4bn takeover.

After the sale Sainsbury’s started to add stores and collection points in to its stores. As they added more they announced they would close around 420 Argos standalone stores, reducing the UK store estate to around 100 by March 2024.
